C. R. Rao

1920–2023 · Statistics

Calyampudi Radhakrishna Rao shaped modern statistical estimation theory. His 1945 work introduced the Cramér–Rao bound, which sets a lower limit on the variance of an unbiased estimator, and the Rao–Blackwell theorem for improving estimators. He received the International Prize in Statistics in 2023.
