How quickly a team moves the ball while in control. A high tempo can mean slick, incisive play, or sometimes sterile sideways passing that goes nowhere.
Usually as the share of time a team has the ball, or the share of passes. This calculator uses possession time, then adds a passes-per-minute tempo read.
Because possession without penetration just keeps the ball away from your own goal without threatening the other. Quality of possession matters more than quantity.
